Innovate, Develop and Share
16th - 19th of October 2018, Lyon (France)
Dear members and friends of ISTO,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to take part in the 27th ISTO World Congress, which, twelve years after the congress we held in Aubagne and Marseille will return to France, in Lyon, from 16 to 19 October 2018.
As ISTO is in the midst of a major transformation, we will find ourselves in a very different context from our previous congress in Zagreb, 2016. Indeed, our organisation has opened its doors to inclusive and responsible tourism, while of course maintaining its commitment to social policies.
As well as these major issues, several other aspects require our attention, for example the ethical dimension, which is of the utmost importance to us, along with new challenges, such as the regulation of tourism in order to ensure acceptance by local host populations.
Together with the French Ministry of Tourism and the Auvergne Rhône Alpes region, whom we would sincerely like to thank for their support, the “Union nationale des associations de tourisme et de plein air” (UNAT) and the “Réseau des Acteurs du tourisme durable” (ATD), we have strived to organise a more dynamic and diversified congress around the general topic of “Tourism in Actions”.
By offering a space for reflection, workshops for discussion and comparing ideas, as well as informal and relaxing moments, the congress will enable ISTO to share its vision for tourism in a meaningful and useful way for all members and participants.
Whether you are a member of ISTO or not, this congress is open to everyone. As of now, I would like to extend to you a warm welcome to the beautiful city of Lyon in October.
Jean Marc Mignon,
To respond to new societal challenges, the evolution of clients, the ability of actors to adapt, particularly through new technologies.
To ensure greater access to holidays and mobility in the framework of programs aimed at empowering the autonomy of youth and the
development of a European and global citizenship.
What are the solutions in terms of seasonality, sustainability, responsible and fair tourism to cope with the growing phenomenon of ‘overtourism’ and often the rejection of local populations towards tourists.
For the 1st time ever, the ISTO World Congress holds an Innovation Forum, aiming at promoting new initiatives, projects or products, as well as services that can be used by operators in the field of social, sustainable, responsible and inclusive tourism.
Whether you represent a public or private body, a start-up or a consortium launching a social or technological innovation (new application, platform, product, management tool, etc.) or a governance-related initiative, you are invited to submit a communication. If your paper is accepted, you will be part of the programme of the Innovation forum and thus enjoy high visibility prior to and during the congress.
For more information, please refer to the attached document and fill out the form by 31 August.
